Despite the shutdown of ABS-CBN, followers of Vice Ganda can still watch him on his own newly-launched digital network called ViceGanda.com.ph. In fact, on July 24, 2020, people were able to watch his latest show called “Gabing-Gabi na Vice.” During a recent digicon, the popular comedian-TV host admitted that for a long time now, he has been contemplating to have content in the digital space.
“Actually, it was because of the lockdown why I finally pushed through with my plan,” Vice avers. “That time, ‘It’s Showtime’ wasn’t airing. So, I had to find a means how to reach out to my audience. That’s the directive given to us by the ABS-CBN management.
“Since, you’re at home because of the lockdown you need to find a way to still connect to your viewers. You need to assert your presence and continue serving your old purpose of giving entertainment to them. So, the only way is through digital. Because of the lockdown and the fact that ABS-CBN is not airing, it seems that a lot of people migrated to digital.
“Especially in my case, my audience misses seeing me on television. They’re looking for some good vibes which I can bring to them but there was no way. So, I thought, going digital is the answer”
The articulate celebrity is aware of the potential of digital media.
“You know, there are lots of things you can do online. As I’ve mentioned earlier, we, as artists have to find ways to reach out to our audience and serve our purpose to them. I guess, this is my way of doing so!”
As compared to his previous Sunday night show on the Kapamilya network, Vice believes that he can interview more stars in “Gabing-Gabi na Vice” including those who come from the rival station (GMA-7).
“I think it’s possible since this is digital and online. It’s not TV. The more, the merrier, right? Based on my experience with ‘GGV’, it came to a point when we’ve already tapped all Kapamilya stars as guests. The staff asks, ‘Who will be the next that we’ll interview?’ In the span of nine years, we’ve already exhausted our resources, so to speak. But we can’t do anything because it’s the system.
“So, now with ‘Gabing-Gabi na Vice’, I think it’s just okay to invite stars from the Kapuso stable for variety. I’m sure it will be to the delight of the audience. It will be fun to see me interviewing or exchanging banter with other celebrities which is something fresh before the eyes of the viewers.”
Interestingly, who are the GMA stars he has in mind who he wants to interview?
“Actually, there are lots in my wish list. Of course, there’s Heart Evangelista. I would also like to interview Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera. I was able to interview Dong in ‘GGV’ before but he was with Kris Aquino. I think they were promoting a movie. But as in solo, there’s still none yet. Then, I think an interview with Michael V would be great,” ends Vice.
