DALY CITY – “Fashion with a Mission” was the theme for the annual fund-raising event of the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California (PMSNC).
A special performance was given by comedian Rex Navarrete and a fashion show presented by humanitarian designer Gia Galicia. Designs by Amy Lai, Rolando Carlin, Adrine Karapetyan, Eva Mejl, Paul Gallo, and Coco Melody by Puey Quinones were also featured.
Quoting Galicia: “Last May 2017, one of my models for the show, Marilen Bernardo invited the president of the PMSNC (Dr. Pedro Cajator, M.D.) to my charity fashion show with the San Francisco Bay Ateneans and the Pilipino Senior Resource Center which benefitted an orphanage in Antipolo and Filipina breast cancer survivors based in the Bay Area. At a follow-up meeting, Dr. Cajator expressed his intention for me to do the same type of fashion show-charity event for his organization.”
“I never gave it a second thought since it benefitted a charitable cause. It was the most challenging show I have ever produced since I wore multiple hats also as event co-chair. One of the many tasks involved handling the press/media! But at the end of the day, when you have the best intentions at heart, things will go your way. I am hoping that I have helped the organization realize their fund-raising goals and was able to effectively promote their mission and values to the media.”
“Fashion with a Mission” at the Pacelli Center in Daly City was a successful, sold out event. Proceeds will benefit next year’s medical mission in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. PMSNC has been conducting annual medical missions since 1986. (Photos by Jho Bule)
