MILPITAS – Mayor Rich Tran mentioned in his welcome remark that recognizing city commissioners is his favorite event.

This was at the 2018 Commissioners’ Recognition event last April 28, acknowledging their important role in the community.

Lately, the Mayor instituted a new process in the selection of city commissioners for the city of Milpitas. “I am eternally grateful for your taking leadership initiatives in Milpitas. I wanted to de-centralize the city government to give everyone the opportunity to serve. I am looking forward to serving the community and working with you even more. We are going to work with each other for the city. Thank you,” Tran said.

For her part, City Manager Julie Edmonds-Mares, in her opening remarks said, “Thank you commissioners, for your service. I am looking forward to working with all of you.”

The 2018 Commissioners’ Recognition event held at the Community Center is in recognition of the commissioners’ service and dedication to the residents of the City of Milpitas.

The city has a total of 14 commissions such as planning, veterans, arts, bicycle pedestrian, community, emergency preparedness, library, parks recreation and cultural resources, telecommunications, recycling and source reduction, seniors, economic development, sister cities, and the youth advisory commissions.

Also in attendance were: Vice-mayor Marsha Grilli, and councilmembers Garry Barbadillo, Bob Nunez and Anthony Phan. (Elpidio Estioko)
