Filipino artistry showcased at North America’s biggest art fair

Former congresswoman turned painter Sal Ponce Enrile represented Filipino artistry once again in the international stage at the 2019 Art Basel Miami Beach Fair in Miami, Florida on December 4–8.
Art Basel Miami Beach is North America’s most comprehensive international contemporary art fair with over 268 galleries from 35 countries showcasing works by more than 4,000 artists.
Known as “Sal” (her pseudonym as an artist), three of her works were displayed under the Red Dot Miami exhibition, one of Art Basel Miami’s leading satellite shows. The event attracted over 38,000 visitors, a majority of whom are high-net-worth collectors.Sal’s paintings namely “Village,” “Dreamers” and “Redemption” were displayed at booth number 315.
“Redemption is the result of purging all negativity that I initially experienced as an emerging artist. As I was planning my first solo exhibit, I approached several galleries and realized it was difficult to penetrate the local art scene. I was rejected by several galleries, so I decided to try my luck abroad, which worked out for me,” Sal said.
She added, “I painted Redemption while encouraging myself not to give up, hoping that this artwork would someday be my redeeming piece. Redemption turned out to be the favorite of my audience in my first solo show, and it was selected as one of the pieces for Art Basel Miami show. I have been keeping Redemption for myself since it holds so much meaning and personal value to me. I poured out all my frustrations and disappointments on this piece of work.”
Since its inception in 2006, Red Dot Miami has enriched the city’s arts scene beyond measure. Red Dot Miami has become one of the leading satellite shows during The Art Basel Miami Beach fair and Miami Art Week.
As it enters its 14th year, Red Dot Miami will continue to inspire attendees from all over the world with its Art Labs, Art Talks, specially selected Spotlight Galleries, special events, and more.
Taking place in a beautiful gallery-style venue in the heart of Miami’s Wynwood District, Red Dot Miami 2019 aims to play a key role in the rich array of Miami Art Week events, nurturing and strengthening Miami’s art scene with a dynamic agenda.
Last April, Agora Gallery New York selected Sal to exhibit her works in the highly prestigious Artexpo New York, the art event that shapes trends in art galleries worldwide. Sal’s entry into the Art expo places her in a distinguished position, where she joins influential artists like Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Keith Haring and Leroy Neiman, who have participated in the world’s largest art expo during its 41-year history.
Afterwards, Sal held her second solo art show named as “Journey: Sal Ponce Enrile,” in Art Cube Gallery, Makati last June. Her painting “Journey” was the centerpiece of the art show.
Sal’s artworks were displayed in private collections in Manila, Germany, New York, Dubai, Rome, Milano, California, Tokyo, Zurich and Marbella. Sal is an artist-in-residence at Rossocinabro Gallery, Rome, and is represented by Dragon Art ( Proceeds of her works go to charities she’s supporting.
