San Francisco Mabuhay Golf Club celebrates 50TH anniversary

Mabuhay Golf Club of San Francisco will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary with a dinner- dance at Fort Mckinley in South San Francisco on December 29.

Mabuhay Golf Club was founded in 1967 aboard the Philippine Vessel MV Rizal which was docked at Pier 37 in San Francisco. There were 12 organizers, namely: Alex Agcaoli, Raon Barretto, Jess Esteva, Jimmy Jacinto, Joe Jacinto, Charlie Hagedorn, Ramon Halili, Joseph Libunao,Wally Meneses, Adolfo Roensch, Alfredo Siason and Gerry Sy.

The club’s first advisor and golf coach was Larry Montes,the 13th time winner of the Philippine Open, who at the time was teaching Pro at Harding Golf Course in San Francisco.
Joseph Libunao and Gerry Sy will be at the Golden Anniversary event. These founders had the vision to promote the game and lasting friendship that can only be developed playing golf.

The succeeding officers and members continue the vision and today, the club is led by Greg Roja, president; Tony Sy, executive vice-president; Tony Limgenco, VP Tournaments; John Warren, VP Handicaps; Manny Espinosa, secretary; Zenon Carlos, asst. secretary; Mar Lagrisola, treasurer; Alex Dudley, director-at-large; Peter Garcia, director East Bay; Joe de Leon, director SF; Chris Degrande, director Peninsula; Joe Villamil, public relations; Marshalls: Oscar Geronimo, Bert Galang, Lou Ocampo, Dom Ainza; Gerry Sy, Membership; and Ron Tolman, ex officio.

They enable the club to thrive with over 100 members who participate in monthly tournaments and sanctioned charity golf events for non-profit organizations. The tournaments and charity events are played in championship golf courses around the San Francisco Bay Area. Membership is open to all golfers who adhere to the same vision and purpose.
