MANILA — Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV has given VP Leni Robredo a deadline to decidewhether she will run for president in the May 2022 elections.

On a Facebook post on September 26, Trillanes said he will run for president should Robredo fail to make a decision by October 8, the last day for filing the certificate of candidacy (COC).

“Tuloy ang pagtulak natin kay VP Leni to run for president. Kung tumuloy siya, ipanalo natin siya. Pero kung ‘di pa rin siya makapagdesisyon by 12 noon of October 8, tuloy na po ako ng pagka-presidente,” Trillanes said.

Trillanes ran for the VP post in 2016 but lost to Robredo.

Two weeks more

In a report by ABS-CBN NewsRobredo said she is not in a hurry to decide if she will seek the presidency.

Robredo said she remains hopeful that the opposition’s unification talks for the 2022 elections will succeed before the closing of the COC filing.

“Sa akin, dalawang linggo pa eh. Tinitignan natin kung may pag-asa pang magsama-sama,” Robredo said in her weekly radio program.

“Siguro mayroong iba na di na natin ma-aaya. Pero hanggang may communication lines pang bukas, patuloy ko itong ipu-pursue,” she added.

While remaining silent on her talks with presidential hopeful and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Robredo said that it is important to “field a strong candidate against the administration’s bet.”

Robredo willing to give way to defeat Duterte, Marcos bets

In a report by GMA NewsRobredo told Ateneo Katipunan during a radio interview that she is considering not seeking the presidency if it means a better chance at defeating Duterte, Marcos bets in the May 2022 elections.

‘Yung backlash, personal ‘yun. Kaya ko iyon,” Robredo said, noting she is aware of possiblebacklash from her supporters should she decided to give way.

“While I appreciate the support, hindi ako kakandidato to satisfy my supporters (alone).Kakandidato ako if that is for the best interest of the country. Klaro ‘yun,” she added.

In her weekly radio program, Robredo believes there is danger if the opposition could not unify against the administration bets.

Ang pangalawang nakakatakot na scenario – yung nangyayari ngayon, patuloy na mangyayari in six years,” she said.

“Sa akin, the more na magkaisa kami, the more na mabawasan yung tatakbo against theadministration, mas mabuti.
