MEMPHIS, Tenn.  – The Association of Asian American Investment Managers (AAAIM),the national voice of Asian and Pacific Islander investment managers, plans to join San Francisco Bay Area residents for the virtual St. Jude Walk/Run on SaturdaySept. 25.

The 5K event is designed to observe Childhood Cancer Awareness Month while raising awareness and support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

The St. Jude Walk/Run is taking place nationwide – thanks to national series sponsors Amazon, Window World and Marcum Foundation. Bay Area participants are encouraged to walk, run and fundraise at their own pace, in their own neighborhoods while following all federal and local guidelines to ensure a safe experience. For virtual engagement opportunities on race day, download the St. Jude Walk/Run mobile app in the Apple app store and on Google Play

Events like the St. Jude Walk/Run are designed to celebrate St. Jude achievements while inspiring supporters to keep the momentum as fundraisers because St. Jude won’t stop until no child dies of cancer. Because of community support, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

AAAIM’s support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital extends beyond the St. Jude Walk/Run. The association selected St. Jude as its first official charity partner of its national conference on Sept. 15-16 to shine a light on the positive impact of its lifesaving mission: Finding cures. Saving children.®  Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since the hospital opened nearly 60 years ago. St. Jude won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.

The inclusive nature of both organizations brought us together, so we are honored to recognize St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as our charity partner,” said David Lam, venture capitalist, AAAIM board member and St. Jude Walk/Run captain. “We are connected by shared values and united in the fight to cure childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases for children everywhere.”

The groundbreaking research and treatment at St. Jude is shared globally and would not be possible without the support of the community. Its coalition of more than 100 international partners are fueled by a similar purpose of making an impact. For example, St. Jude Oncology Chair Dr. Ching-Hon Pui is helping to expand and accelerate progress on cancer research and treatment through a number of international collaborations in China. Most recently, the results of a clinical trial proved it is safe to remove some of the therapies for children with low-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia to substantially reduce some of the long-term side effects of treatment.

St. Jude is also tripling its investment in international efforts and collaborating with the World Health Organization to transform cancer care worldwide and cure at least 60% of children with six of the most common types of cancer by 2030.

“Partners like AAAIM are instrumental in helping us expand our reach with the St. Jude mission, so we can raise the support required to accelerate research on devastating childhood diseases and save children all over the world,” said Coury Shadyac, Territory Vice President of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Cancer does not discriminate, and neither does St. Jude. Treating and defeating childhood cancer isn’t a solo endeavor. We can’t do it alone, but together, we can make a difference.”

In 2012, President Barack Obama proclaimed September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to bring awareness to pediatric cancer, which remains the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 14. Visit stjude.org/together to learn more about how St. Jude is treating and defeating childhood cancer, and show support by going gold. The gold color and a gold ribbon are symbols for cancer affecting children.
