UCLA Filipino Alumnus Harold Sarmiento Awarded Prestigious Scholarship


On Saturday, June 12, 2021, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Filipino Alumnus and Doctor of Nursing Practice student Harold Sarmiento was awarded the Charles E. Harless Graduate Student Leadership Scholarship Award at UCLA’s Lavender Graduation ceremony. Mr. Harold Sarmiento received his Master of Science in Nursing with emphasis on Adult-Gerontology Primary Care at UCLA’s School of Nursing and often devotes his spare time helping others despite a very busy schedule.   

Mr. Bobby Rimas, Past Chair/President of the UCLA Pilipino Alumni Association and Associate Professor at California State University, Los Angeles, presented the award and announced the reasons why Harold Sarmiento was awarded the graduate scholarship via UCLA’s Lavender Graduation ceremony attended by other scholarship awardees, UCLA graduates, faculty, families and friends.  Mr. Rimas indicated that “In addition to being a UCLA Doctor of Nursing Practice student, Harold works as an Infectious Disease Nurse Practitioner at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center where he serves LGBTQ+ patients as both a provider and health advocate.  Harold is also a Board Member at UCLA Lambda LGBTQ+ Alumni Association, an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA School of Nursing, a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council doctoral student representative at UCLA School of Nursing, Director of Events for Men in Nursing at UCLA, and serves as an alumni mentor to UCLA undergraduate and graduate students interested in the nursing profession and the healthcare industry.  Harold also served as a board member and a volunteer in other HIV and LGBTQ+ organizations locally and nationally.  For these reasons and many more, Harold is truly deserving of this award.”
