Eligible lawful permanent residents who want to protect their interests and vote in 2020 should apply for citizenship soon

FREMONT — Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA), a 101 year old local non-profit providing immigration legal services, strongly encourages eligible permanent residents to become citizens to protect their rights and interests. If you want to vote in the 2020 elections, Do not wait to apply for citizenship.

According to USCIS, citizenship application processing times now average 11 to 16 months throughout the Bay Area. Notably, in 2015, the average citizenship application processing time was under six months nationally.

IIBA Fremont is holding a free Citizenship Workshop at the Fremont Family Resource Center on June 1. The workshop is generously sponsored by Latham & Watkins, LLP.

The IIBA helps immigrants, refugees, and their families join and contribute to the community. IIBA provides high-quality immigration legal services, education, and civic engagement opportunities.
