SF Dist. Attorney: Police Union Messaging on Prop. 47 ‘Disingenuous’
SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon said that the recent spike in property crimes in the city has little to do with Prop. 47.
He even went so far as to characterize as “very disingenuous” the San Francisco Police Officers Association’s claim that the surge in car break-ins can be traced to the law.
“Car break-ins are not covered by Prop. 47,” Gascon said at an ethnic media news briefing here April 21. “It was a felony before Prop. 47, and it st...
Surviving Sagada
By Lovell Aniag

To my young mind, Sagada was a foreign land where people looked and dressed differently and have rituals and customs that involved dancing and fire.
Two decades later, the lust for Sagada is still there, further ignited by the cult-movie “That Thing Called Tadhana” (starring Angelica Panganib...

By Philip S. Chua, MD, FACS, FPCS
Around 50,000 persons in the United States will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year alone, and about 49,000 others who already have this malignancy would die. That’s how fatal this cancer, the 4th highest cause of cancer-related deaths, is. While annual death rate from pancreatic cancer among those in the Philippines is listed as about 1,400, I could not find any reliable statistics on this. The number of cases coul...

Susan was married and lived in S...
Leni Robredo: “May the best woman win”
PerryScope
By PERRY DIAZ
Up until a few weeks ago, vice presidential candidate Congresswoman Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo was behind in the polls. Way ahead of her then were Senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who were at a statistical dead heat. But the latest polls surprised a lot of the power brokers who have shrugged her off as a “spoiler.” Not anymore. Indeed, if the elections were held today, she’d win over Bongbong and Chiz, which ma...
Technology is useless… if it does not amplify classroom instructions
As I See It
By ELPIDIO R. ESTIOKO
There is truth to Frank DiMaria’s article Allowing Technology to Amplify Quality Teaching published last week when he mentioned that technology is useless if not properly utilized by qualified teachers. I mentioned in my last week’s column that to succeed in the 21st century education, teachers must be prepared to use technology and must be trained to provide more adult guidance to students in modern technology gadgets. So, it’s not merel...
